Why choose resin for your driveway or patio?

Why Resin?

Ask anyone in the landscaping industry and they’ll likely tell you the same thing—resin is one of the best surfaces for domestic driveways and patios. Why? It looks exceptional and offers complete design flexibility, with options for contrasting colours, patterns, and shapes. It also delivers the permeability of gravel, without the mess, movement, or constant upkeep.

A resin-bound driveway is fully porous, allowing water to drain naturally through the surface. The resin binds natural aggregates together while leaving tiny gaps between the քար particles, enabling water to pass through into the sub-base below. This helps prevent puddles, runoff, and flooding.

The smooth, seamless finish also makes resin an excellent choice for older homeowners, wheelchair users, or anyone less steady on their feet.

Unlike tarmac, resin won’t fade in sunlight and is far more resistant to weed growth compared to block paving, where weeds often appear between joints.

The three main benefits of resin are:

Superb Drainage

Fully SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems) compliant, reducing the risk of flooding. Allows rainwater to drain naturally, preventing water buildup and erosion.

Anti-Slip

Anti-slip properties make it safer for walking and driving, even in wet conditions. Resin is a smooth, even surface with no loose stones or trip hazards, makes it wheelchair-friendly.

Super Low Maintenance

Easy to clean—just requires occasional sweeping and power washing. Resistant to weeds, moss, and oil spills. It has no loose stones like traditional gravel surfaces that need to be constantly raked.

High Specification Porous Sub-Base

6 inch MOT sub-base with 50mm porous tarmac/asphalt provides the exceptional strength to the driveway/patio.

It’s imperative that the sub-base is built to the above specification to ensure the driveway/patio does not fail prematurely and to ensure rainfall is dealt with appropriately.

High Specification 30mm Resin Finish

30mm UV Stable Resin to finish the drive. Available in a vast choice of colours and with the flexibility to use different colours to highlight paths and special features.

Coupled with our industry standard sub-base, you get a driveway that is fully SUDS compliant.

Resin Bound Surfaces

We install resin bound surfaces that are fully compliant with UK Building Control Regulations.

Resin bound systems are highly permeable, allowing water to drain through at an impressive rate of around 850 litres per minute per square metre. This far exceeds even heavy rainfall levels, meaning your driveway won’t suffer from puddling or surface water build-up. Instead, water drains naturally into the ground below, helping to reduce runoff into roads and storm drains—one of the key contributors to flooding.

By comparison, surfaces like tarmac and block paving, while slightly porous, often struggle to cope with high volumes of rain. This can lead to excess water flowing into drainage systems. With modern homes increasingly opting for larger driveways, resin bound surfaces are a smarter, more sustainable solution.
